Asthma Supplies: Review of Pulmicort Respules

Review: Pulmicort Respules, Pulmicort Side Effects & The Pulmicort Turbuhaler

Pulmicort Respules is an anti-inflammatory steroid medication intended for long-term asthma treatments. Pulmicort Respules is intended for children of below 8 years old and is administered through a nebulizer, not an inhaler. For older children and adults, Pulmicort Turbuhaler is probably a handier solution – it is the same medication, only that it can be taken in by an inhaler.

Important disclaimer: Pulmicort is virtually useless as a rescue/quick-relief drug and should never be used in such a role. The first visible effects of this medication can be seen in 2-8 days and the change may not be noticeable for as long as four to six weeks. This is true regardless of the form you use to take Pulmicort.

Pulmicort Turbuhaler dosage:

Use Pulmicort exactly according to your doctor's

instructions. Remember that the effectiveness of Pulmicort (whether Respules or Turbuhaler) depends solely on its regular use. Keep the amount of medication stable – do not use larger or smaller does depending on the condition unless your doctor has told you to do so.

Pulmicort side effects:

The most common Pulmicort side effects are not insignificant and include:

1. Fungal infections in the mouth (typical side effect of steroids)

2. Ear or nasal infections or inflammations

3. Abdominal pain

4. Diarrhea

5. Stomach inflammation

6. Virus infections.

7. In rare cases Pulmicort may cause also allergic reactions, bleeding under skin, frequent mood changes, growth suppression and voice alteration.

If you suffer from any of the side effects described above (or any other other suspicious disorders), stop taking Pulmicort and contact your doctor immediately in order to change the medication into something safer. It is clear that Pulmicort Respules & the Pulmicort Turbuhaler are not to be used casually!
